Whelan injury dents Laois hopes
by Brian Murphy, 13 May 2008

Matthew Whelan in action against Tipperary

Laois hurler Matthew Whelan has been ruled out of action for the rest of the season with cruciate knee damage.

Laois are due to face Offaly in the quarter-final of the Leinster SHC on Sunday week, but manager Damian Fox will have to do without centre-back Whelan.

The Borris-in-Ossory club man suffered the injury in a league game against Abbeyleix two weeks ago.

The news will come as a serious blow to the O’Moore County, who have already had to deal with the loss of Zane Keenan and Kieran Fitzpatrick.

Setanta readers' comment of the day

“Hull have now beaten Arsenal and Tottenham and the press continues to focus on how bad Spurs and Arsenal were during the games. The focus should of been on how great Hull City have been and the discipline they have shown since moving into The Premiership. Phil Brown is a perfect example of a coach with good man-management skills as he gets the best out of every player. Well done Hull City!”
