Parnell brawl appeals to be heard
by Brian Murphy, 13 May 2008
The six players facing two-month suspensions after the Parnell Park brawl involving Meath and Dublin will have their appeals heard on Tuesday night.
Five Meath players as well as Bernard Brogan, the only Dublin player to appeal his ban, will have their cases heard by the GAA’s Central Appeals Committee [CAC] after their suspensions were upheld by the Central Hearings Committee [CHC] last month.
The Meath quintet – Brendan Murphy, Shane McAnarney, Nigel Crawford, Seamus Kenny and Niall McKeigue – will argue that the presence of a Wexford official on the CCCC committee affected their appeal.
The presence of the Wexford official may be deemed as a conflict of interest given that Meath are due to play the Model County in the Leinster Championship should they beat Carlow.
All six players have the option of taking their cases to the Disputes Resolution Authority [DRA] if their latest appeals are unsuccessful.
