Celtic's bid for Durica fails
by Nick Royle, 24 January 2008

Jan Durica

Slovak defender Jan Durica’s agent has said that Celtic’s bid has been turned down by Russian side Saturn.

Durcia's agent Karel Csonto has confirmed that Celtic made a £3 million (€4 million) bid for the 26-year-old, who Bhoys boss Gordon Strachan wanted as cover at left back and centre half.

Csonto does not believe that the Scottish side will come back with a new offer.

"About three days ago Celtic representatives contacted us and said that they would like to capture Jan Durica. I personally discussed the transfer with Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell," Csonto told SITA.

"The Scottish side has offered Saturn a €4 million bid, which is not an adequate offer.

"The Russians have already turned it down. Personally, at present I don't see his move to Celtic too realistic."

Setanta readers' comment of the day

“How about that for deflecting the question.. and most responders fell for it!! Maradona cheated; no question, he's even proud of it. Instead of having any kind of empathy he attacks the England World Cup 66 victory... which has NOTHING to do with the 'hand of god' incident. Yet idiots focus on what Maradona says, and not the truth on what he has never said - admitting he was a cheat. Goes to prove what ineruditic sheep there are out there.”
